Loving books

Some read them, others cut or sculpt , and wht not paint them...  Books as tracks of life, where thoughts, history and memory are mixed… We like their covers andtheir imperfections make them more alive.See herethe works of Jacqueline Rush Lee Or Cara Barer, clic And the slices of life of Mike Stikley

Marvellous French glass globes

Offered for the weeding, they were protecting all the souvenirs and treasures of the newly marriedwoman : her wedding crown and later all little things, heritage of her parents or gift, she would add along her life. All the story here. You can recognize the older ones to the fineness of the glass. Some are round, oval, up to 62 cm. Today, when they do not collect them, the artists divert them to shelter under glass a whole smallworld , a concentrate of marvellous history, using typography, books,... [Lire la suite]

Blue storm

I was searching for a French antique glass globe - yes I lose hope not to find one - ... I consolated myself with a lot of 10 plates with a blue border and 10 green glasses. Here is a foretaste of what my table would be like, with a little improvised dinner for two..

Two-tone antique porcelain

Flea markets are full of these little plates, soup tureens or hors d'oeuvre dishes which have sodelicate colors. I am particularly fond of two-tone patterns. I hunted for these ones yesterday, and by chance theyare very well preserved. They have evocative names : Messidor, Antibes, Bagatelle, Evreux...   The 900 patterns of the Sarreguemines French manufacture give you a huge choice to begin acollection !

Just dare

We all know (and respect) Designers Guild, their fabulous fabrics and wallpapers. A plentiful worldof colors and materials. It is for me the personified audacity. I have selected some pictures fromtheir web site here. For a Grand Siècle atmosphere should you have a castle, a cottage in the countryside, or the mostmodern loft, or nothing of all that, all is a pretext for an explosion of colors… I love these méli-mélo of colored or striped lampshades that refresh so much the classic chandelier... And always that mix of silk,... [Lire la suite]

The double life of things

I discovered this old box with its false bottom and mysterious initials B.T., containing old bobbins. An occasion to dream of its previous life... As Miss Marple would do, let's imagine Mrs Betty Tenderton, old English dressmaker drinking a cupof tea in a Minton china, while hidding the murder weapon in the false bottom of her sewing box... Now in its new life, here is the Boîte à Trésors (my treasure box)... The nice cup will be used for a tea-party with friends ladies... The last for which ?

Lily of the Valley does not wait

Three drops of rain, some heat, and hop ! Three weeks before May 1st Lily of the Valley is spreading out nicely between irises, roses and muscaris… that's South of France ! On May 1, 1561, King Charles IX of France received a lily of the valley as a lucky charm. He decidedto offer a lily of the valley each year to the ladies of the court. At the beginning of the 20th century,it became custom to give a sprig of lily of the valley, a symbol of springtime, on May 1. The government permits individuals to sell them... [Lire la suite]

Green or blue ?

In the 2011 collection of the great Farrow & Ball, associations of unexpected colors come to hustle our habits. We knew the Gray - the different ones - and all the dull tones, the pallet of blue, from turquoise to blue storm... In the photo below, a touch of colour on a little frame, by its modest presence electrifies the gray.Look at the top... What to cause a desire of deco and awake one afternoon rather gray : Take an emerald greenlampshade. Install it on a wrought iron lamp. Find a beautiful pine cone. Make up its... [Lire la suite]
